Live Visuals

Rising North photos © Brian Gray Photography

Immersive visuals for gigs, festivals and events - from Shetland to beyond.

I create live visuals that respond to music, performance and place - transforming sound into immersive visual experiences. My background as a graphic designer and multidisciplinary printmaker means I bring a sharp design sensibility together with a love for process, layering and experimentation.

From club nights and festivals in Shetland to collaborative projects with musicians and artists, my approach is always bespoke: no two shows look the same. Each performance is part of an evolving practice that mixes professional tools with a playful, hands-on spirit, creating visuals that feel alive in the moment.

Every project is different I build visuals around the people, music and atmosphere involved

  • Live visuals for music and festivals
  • Projection and installations for events and exhibitions
  • Bespoke, collaborative approaches - tailored to each performer and venue

The Revellers’ new album Reactors is a powerful piece of work, recorded and mastered by Jamie Hatch. For the show, I created visuals tailored to key tracks, drawing on a mix of archived footage and original camera work captured around Shetland to reflect the music’s energy and themes. A highlight of the set was a custom-built system that allowed me to trigger lyrics in real time, running TouchDesigner into Resolume. This meant the crowd could sing along to brand-new songs as they were being performed live.

With Derek Hendry’s technical support, and permission from the Gulberwick Hall commitee, we were able to temporarily install a projector in the venue, bringing an extra layer of atmosphere to an already unforgettable launch night.

Being invited to create live visuals for the main stage across the full weekend was a real step up for me - both in ambition and in scale. With support from Keith and Derek on stage design and rigging, we integrated visuals into a circular screen suspended on a truss system, giving the graphics a strong presence within the stage architecture. 15 acts performed on the main stage across the two days, each with its own distinct feel, making this my most intensive project to date.

It was also the first time I collaborated live with Chloe, who I’ve been mentoring in visuals - together we were able to respond in real-time to the energy of each band. Rising North became not just a showcase of music, but of how a small team of creatives can come together to create something special for both performers and audiences.

For this year’s expanded Boppapalooza all-dayer, I had the chance to bring live visuals to the festival main stage. Building from the event’s psychedelic branding, I created a generative moving orb that became the central motif across different media. Visuals included a live VHS feed - VJing 1990s tapes directly into the mix - alongside a Raspberry Pi running the _r_e_c_u_r__ controller to play back official band videos, all filtered through the same trippy, evolving aesthetic. The result was a playful, multi-layered visual experience that tied together the energy of the festival.
